The Trussell Trust has partnered with BanktheFood, a small charity helping food banks get essential supplies, to ensure that our food banks get the items they need the most so they can continue supporting people facing hardship in their local communities. The partnership will make it easier for people across the UK to find out the best items to donate to their local food bank.
Across the UK, food banks are at breaking point. The soaring cost of living is leaving people with no option but to turn to their local food bank – and the amount of help needed is outstripping donations. BanktheFood’s free app enables users to connect with their local food bank and receive a notification of its most-needed items. The app also sends a list of what’s urgently needed when the user arrives at their local supermarket, enabling shoppers to choose the items that will make the biggest difference in their local community and add them to their shop before they get to the checkout.
Since 2021, BanktheFood has grown in popularity and now has more than 48,000 people using the app to donate food items and toiletries, helping both the Trussell Trust and independent food banks in communities across the UK. The app is free and generates up to 7,000 donated items every week.
