Dorking Area Foodbank – 6 year anniversary

1st June 2021

The Dorking Area Foodbank first opened its doors in June 2015 when it was identified that, shockingly, there were people living in Dorking and the surrounding area who did not have enough money to feed themselves or their families.  The reasons that people reach such a crisis point are many and complex but include redundancy, relationship breakdown, abuse, illness/bereavement and of course low income and benefits challenges.  And it can happen to anyone.
The foodbank is an organic community project – local people and businesses donate food and money, local people volunteer to work in different foodbank operations and it’s all to help local people in crisis.  It’s a very real living example of compassion and community spirit in action.
It’s sad that our foodbank is still needed – this is no 6-year celebration – but as long as it is, we’ll be here to help each other.
